On November 21, 2022, the Founder and Director of “Law and Public Policy Center” – Ketevan Kukava participated in the 8th Georgian Internet Governance Forum. She focused on the challenges related to personal data protection in Georgia and highlighted the importance of bringing Georgian legislation and practice in line with European standards.
The panel was moderated by personal data
protection expert and former Personal Data Protection Inspector – Tamar Kaldani.
Representatives of the Personal Data Protection Service – Nino Tsagareishvili
and Gvantsa Gabaidze were also among the speakers. The reporter of the panel
was Mzekala Romanadze – one of the winners of an essay competition organized by
the Internet Society Georgia Chapter.
“Harmonization
with European data protection standards serves the purpose of protecting the
rights and interests of each individual in our country. Georgian legislation
should respond to the challenges existing in the digital age, however,
improvement of legal norms will not be sufficient. They should be effectively
implemented in practice and the public's awareness should be increased,” – noted
Ketevan Kukava at the forum.
